Metropolitan Justice Center of Southeast Michigan – Federal Defender Office

The Federal Defender Office (FDO) is a community defender organization which provides court-appointed representation to indigent defendants charged with federal crimes in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Under the leadership of Miriam L. Siefer, Executive Vice President and Chief Defender, the Federal Defender Office employs 25 skilled attorneys.  They are members of the Michigan State Bar Association and the local or national Trial Association.  The attorneys are committed to defending every client competently and aggressively.

They do this with the assistance of 6 investigators and 11 support staff.  The FDO manages approximately 1300 cases per year, working diligently to ensure that the clients’ legal needs are met.
