About the Metropolitan Justice Center of Southeast Michigan
The Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that in all criminal prosecutions an accused has the right to the assistance of counsel for his or her defense. Under the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, this right has been extended to persons accused of crimes in state prosecutions.
The State Defender Office of the Metropolitan Justice Center of Southeast Michigan ensures that the rights of persons charged with felonies in state court are guaranteed. The primary function of each office is to provide the assistance of effective counsel in all criminal and related proceedings.
